Richard Bouzaglou Physiotherapist / Co-Founder The AMS Medical & Rehabilitation centre was founded in 2008 by a group of health professionals including Richard Bouzaglou. Richard Bouzaglou has developed a wide range of resourceful approaches to treatment through his studies in Sports Medicine at Concordia University and Physiotherapy at McGill University. He is well known in Montreal as the guiding force in creating an innovative, interdisciplinary rehabilitation department at one of Quebec’s largest private rehabilitation centers. He has brought the same energy, innovation and vision to the AMS Medical & Rehabilitation centre. In Sports Medicine, Richard has worked with high caliber athletes during his tenyer as head therapist of the ice hockey, football & soccer teams at CEGEP Saint Laurent. To further compliment his extensive athletic experience, Richard turned to McGill University’s prestigious physiotherapy department where he graduated in 1999. A strong believer in continuing education, Richard has and is currently taking advanced courses in Osteopathy, Manual Therapy, spinal evaluation & treatment courses as well as specialized postural correction seminars. Richard has also served as the Director of the physiotherapy, massage therapy and osteopathy departments at one of North America’s largest private rehabilitation centers. Also a strong believer in teaching as a way of increasing one’s knowledge, Richard has been the clinical residency director in charge of offering residencies to the physiotherapy students from the University of Montreal, McGill University and CEGEP Marie-Victorin. He has thus mentored many future therapists. |

Stephen Cross Sports Therapist Stephen graduated from McGill University in 1983 with a degree in Physiology and then in 1986 with a degree in Physiotherapy. In 1988 Stephen became certified as an athletic therapist, a title and membership he maintained until 2008. He has a deep interest in orthopedics and sports medicine. Of particular interest to Stephen are the Acute Care of sports injuries and Concussions in sports… due to having worked with some of the top experts in the field. Beginning in 1984 while still a student, Stephen began his sports medicine training by working with the McGill Redmen Hockey Team, the McGill Redmen Football Team and the McGill Redmen Basketball Team… This work with sports teams and athletes of all levels (Professional and Olympic athletes to amateurs of all ages), has continued to this day. Stephen has worked a total of 16 seasons with McGill football, 12 seasons with McGill basketball, 1 season with McGill hockey, 2 seasons with Quebec major junior football, 3 seasons with Midget AAA hockey and had the pleasure of being game day help for the Montreal Alouettes for 5 seasons. In addition Stephen was involved for many years with the pre-season medical evaluations for both the Montreal Alouettes Football Team and the Montreal Canadians Hockey team. Since graduating, Stephen has continued his education by taking many courses (manual therapy etc…) and attending many conferences. He has taught emergency care to students who volunteered with the football and basketball teams at McGill and he has been an examiner for the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association’s national certification exams. In addition Stephen taught, for many years, the helmet removal and spinal immobilization part of the doctors Advanced Trauma and Life Support course (ATLS). He has also had the privilege of teaching Advanced Orthopedics, a course he developed, at McGill University for the third year physical therapy students from 1996 to 2004. Today Stephen is continuing his involvement with sports medicine by treating athletes of all levels. He has also given numerous presentations to different (hockey and soccer) organizations (parents, athletes, coaches, referees) on the topic of concussion in sports. |

Catherine Roy Physiotherapist Catherine graduated in physiotherapy from the University of Alberta in 1998. Catherine chose to work in the field of orthopedics and sports rehabilitation by working in several reputable physiotherapy clinics both in Alberta and Quebec. Catherine also volunteered her time evaluating and treating rugby athletes from a rugby team and the Alberta Ballet. Catherine pursued her continuing education in manual therapy as well as yoga at the instructor level. She is now an active member of the multidisciplinary team at AMS. She will continue to specialize herself in vestibular rehabilitation to treat BPPV & labyrinthitis. |

Steven McElligott Physiotherapist M.Sc. PT, ATCMasters of Physical Therapy – McGill University, 2010 Masters of Athletic Training / Bachelor of Sports Science - Long Island University 2007 Steven graduated from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY in 2007 with a dual degree from the Masters of Athletic Training / Bachelor of Sports Science program at LIU and passed the NATA BOC exam later that year to be a Certified Athletic Trainer. He worked at a year in NY in various setting gaining valuable knowledge in a private sports oriented physiotherapy clinic and worked with various teams of the NYC public high school league as an athletic therapist. He returned to school in 2008 to be part of the inaugural class of the Masters program M.Sc of Physical therapy in 2008, in which he graduated in December 2010. He has since gained experience in different parts of the health care system in Quebec, from CLSC’s, to rehabilitation centers and major hospitals. His treatment approach is influenced from his varied background, ranging from manual therapy, osteopathic techniques, McKenzie, athletic therapy and other styles in order to look at the person as a whole and not just an injury. He approaches the injury with an inquisitive mind treatment that focuses on what’s causing the root problem and not just treating the symptoms of the injury so that you can be injury free sooner. He is an avid-runner for 15 years and a former provincial champion at many track and field events, and has had nearly all the running injuries known to go along with it. He recently moved up to the half-marathon and marathon running distances, and finished 11th overall at the 2011 Scotiabank Toronto Half-Marathon. He also enjoys computers and web-design in his free time. |

From 2005 to 2009 Catherine worked in the physiotherapy field helping patients regain their physical independence. Her passion for learning took the best of her and she decided to enroll in a second health professional field, the field of acupuncture. Julie Deguire Rehabilitation Therapist Julie graduated in 2007 from the Montmorency College in the rehabilitation therapist program. After having worked in the geriatric & the long term care rehabilitation fields, Julie decided to specialize in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. After some time in a physiotherapy clinic specializing in common injuries such as low back & neck pain, she decided to join the AMS clinic and concentrate her abilities in working with a team of health care professionals to better serve her patients. Daniela Aftanase Rehabilitation Therapists & Certified Massage Therapists Daniela has a long standing experience treating patients with joint, muscle & tendon pain. She graduated in 1988 from the National College of Roumania with a science degree and decided to pursue her studies in massage therapy at the International Academy of Massage in Roumania. Shortly after, Daniela decided to bring her expertise to Canada and received her equivalency diploma in Montreal from the Association des Massothérapeutes Professionels du Quebec in 2004. Her passion to help her patients pushed her even further in her studies and Daniela finally decided to go back to her studies and become a rehabilitation technician in 2008 after graduating from the Montmorency College. Ever since, Daniela joined the AMS clinic multidisciplinary team where she enjoys helping her patients achieve & maximize their functional potentials. Claudia Diaconu Rehabilitation Therapist Claudia is a 1969 graduate of the Romania Physical education University. She was a professor of physical education for 8 years as well as a volleyball coach. Claudia immigrated to Canada and worked as a volleyball coach for the Maria Assumpta College and was also a physical education professor for the Commission scolaire Marguerite Bourgeoys. Claudia always had a special interest for rehabilitation so she took it upon herself to attend a 3 month residency as a physiotherapy aid. Claudia was amazed at the potential of helping others attain their physical potential and registered right away for the physiotherapy program at the Marie-Victorin CEGEP to become a rehabilitation therapist. Claudia is proud to have joined the AMS team in 2012.

Jessica Oesterreich Occupational Therapists Jessica graduated with a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy from Queen's University in 2009. She chose to pursue her studies at Queen's University due to it's focus training professionals to work in multi-disciplinary teams. Jessica has a special interest in hand therapy. Jessica took continuing education courses in several subjects such as hand therapy and neuropathic pain. Jessica has been working as an Occupational Therapist in Quebec since 2009 and chose to join the AMS team in May of 2010.

Jean Marc Doyon Acupuncturist Jean Marc graduated in 1984 from the Acupuncture program that was offered by the Order of Acupuncturists of Quebec in Montreal. Upon completion of his degree, Jean Marc worked at several rehabilitation centers in Montreal. His passion for learning increased with time and he attended many continuing education courses including Chinese herbology, Ethics & Deontology, musculoskeletal acupuncture, and trigger point therapy. He then took on the challenge of treating chronic as well as acute pain patients together with Montreal’s leading pain health care specialists. Jean-Marc’s approach is “hands on” and thorough. Marie-Elaine Noel Acupuncturist Marie-Elaine graduated in 2010 from the Acupuncture program at the Rosemont College and is ever since an active member of the Quebec Order of Acupuncturists. She completed her residency at the Villa-Médica Rehabilitation Hospital treating pain syndromes in mostly amputees and burn patients. Her passion for learning has pushed her to pursue her expertise and continue taking various courses at different University Hospitals in China including courses with Dre Xuan which has taught Marie-Elaine abdominal acupuncture, an effective method of treating neck and lumbar pain. Marie-Elaine has joined the AMS team to help in treating systemic & musculoskeletal disorders. |

Kimberley Gillett Acupuncturist Kimberley graduated in 1994 from the Acupuncture program in Montreal. Upon completion of her degree, Kimberley worked at several rehabilitation centers throughout Canada. Dr. Petra Winkler Clinical Psychologist Dr. Petra Winkler, clinical psychologist, graduated from Paris Lodron University Salsburg with a doctorat in clinical psychology, psychopathology and psychiatry (stadium irregulare). With the completion of her studies in Austria she came to Montreal for a post doctoral fellowship at the Douglas Hospital, dept. (Psychology/psychiatry). During her stage she was supervised by Dr. Andrew Wosany, a fellow psychologist and jungiant psycho analyst who trained her in jumpian psychoanalysis over the next 2 years of her internship and the following years. Dr. Winkler`s interest always involved the interaction between physical illness and mental state. Following her internship at the Douglas Hospital she became a member of the order of psychologists in Quebec. She started various research projects for the next 10 years with the late Dr. Harold Levitan, psychiatrist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. These findings were published and presented on international conferences on psychosomatic research. Since then, Dr. Winkler also studied at the Mozartheum Salzburg University for Music and dramatic Art. She feels quite passionate about music and psychology she presented various topics about art and psychopathology at the psychiatric Grand Rounds at the Queen Elizabeth hospital as well as at the international conference on Art and Creativity at the Montreal General Hospital. As her career evolved Dr. Winkler noticed a lack of understanding in the treatment of the physical ill and traumatized patient, whether psychological or physical. She became more interested in the treatment of patients with chronic pain and post traumatic stress disorder and she follows conferences and seminary that deal with these tropics.Dr. Winkler special interests are chronic illnesses, pain management, post traumatic stress disorder (PTDS), depression, anxiety and stress related disorders, chronic pain management, relaxation therapy. Sunil Ramgulam Personal Trainer Sunil is a graduate of the Exercise Science program at Concordia University (B.Sc., 1999). Upon completion of his degree Sunil pursued and obtained a personal training certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Opting for their highest level of certification; Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), this certification is held by professional strength coaches of NHL, NFL, MLB teams. After 6 years of working with athletes, rehabilitation clients, cardiac recovery clients, youths and post surgical clients, Sunil decided to expand his range of knowledge. He became a certified massage therapist and natural therapist in order to provide his clients with a wider range of services. Having recovered from 4 knee operations himself he is well aware of trials and tribulations faced by individuals trying to return to activity after injuries/surgeries. His experiences as a trainer, therapist, patient and athlete will help make your recovery a faster and more pleasant experience. When not working to get his clients in better shape, Sunil is involved in many youth and municipal volleyball programs as both coach and player. He is the president of the Pierrefonds Mens Volleyball Association, head coach of the John Abbott Mens and Lac St Louis U17 Boys teams, as well as being an Administrator on the board of directors of the Lac St Louis Sports Commission. |

Shani Lugasy Dietician Shani Lugasy, the AMS Clinic clinical nutritionist treats patients with health deficiencies. Both a clinician and nutritionist, Shani treats a wide range of patients. Her goal is to prevent and treat chronic ailements such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, Crohn’s disease and other inflammatory conditions. Shani also practices in the sports medicine field, develops weight loss programs as well as weight gain programs by adapting her approach to each patient’s needs. Shani also works at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and treats malnutrition as well as many different ailments pertaining to her patients needs. Shani is in charge of the neonatal & oncology clinics at the Hospital. Everyday that goes by there are more and more facets that develop in the field of nutrition. As a professional nutritionist that graduated from McGill university, Shani continually keeps her knowledge & training up to date to face the many growing challenges in nutrition. |

Réjean Grou B.Sc., D.T.O.P. Orthotist-Prosthetist Réjean holds a Bachelor degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal in biology and physiology. Réjean also completed a diploma in orthotic-prosthetic techniques in 1996. Réjean worked for several years as an orthotist-prosthetist in addition to the position of a Team leader and specialist in clinical activity for a reputable rehabilitation center. Réjean was in charge of technical orthotic and prosthetic classes at Montmorency College and a member of the committee for technical aids: orthotics-prosthetics, with the Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux. Réjean is also approved and certified by the Ohio Willow Wood Company for the use of the Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD-CAM) concerning orthotics and prosthetics. In 2008, he founded his own company: collaborating for several years with the AMS clinic with respect to determine the needs related to the equipment such as: orthotics, prosthetics and other devices in which the client has a physical, musculoskeletal and neurological disabilities Furthermore, the common objective is to allow clients to optimize their capacity in order to enable them to achieve greater autonomy and participation in their daily activities. |
