Dr. Petra Winkler

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Petra Winkler, Clinical Psychologist, graduated from Paris Lodron University Salsburg with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Psychopathology and Psychiatry (stadium irregulare).

With the completion of her studies in Austria Petra came to Montreal for a post doctoral fellowship at the Douglas Hospital, department of Psychology/Psychiatry. During her stage she was supervised by Dr. Andrew Wosany, a fellow Psychologist and Jungian Psychoanalyst who trained her in Jungian Psychoanalysis over the two years of her internship and in the years following.

Dr. Winkler`s interest always involved the interaction between physical illness and mental state.

Following her internship at the Douglas Hospital she became a member of the Order of Psychologists of Quebec.  For over a decade, Dr. Winkler was involved in a number of research projects with the late Dr. Harold Levitan, well-respected Psychiatrist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. These findings were published and presented on international conferences on psychosomatic research. Since then, Dr. Winkler also studied at the Mozartheum Salzburg University for Music and dramatic Art.

As her career evolved Dr. Winkler noticed a lack of understanding in the treatment of the physical ill and traumatized patient, whether psychological or physical. She became more interested in the treatment of patients with chronic pain and post traumatic stress disorder and she follows conferences and seminary that deal with these tropics.

Dr. Winkler’s special interests are chronic illnesses, pain management, post traumatic stress disorder (PTDS), depression, anxiety and stress related disorders, chronic pain management, and relaxation therapy. Her approach combines psychodynamic and behavioral treatment methods.
